Team Oregon 2010 Get Pumped Meetings ROCK!

This meeting is for all members of Team Oregon 2010 and anyone who is interested in learning more about the effort.

Team Oregon 2010’s mission is to send as many fabulous athletes as possible to the Gay Games in Cologne, Germany. The Games take place during the first week of August, 2010. Team Oregon 2010 plans to hold fundraisers and garner sponsors to help all traveling participants pay their way to the Games.

At each monthly “Get Pumped” meeting, two main things happen:

1. People interested in joining or supporting Team Oregon 2010 can learn more about us and join up!

2. Members can learn about planned activities in which they can participate. Members earn points toward their travel “scholarship” by participating in activities. Of course, this is also a great time to share new ideas.

The meetings are held at Vergnetti’s Coffee in Portland, Oregon.
The address is: 3954 N Williams Avenue, Portland, Oregon. (Look for the Pirate Flag)

The meeting starts at 6:30 pm and we work VERY hard to make sure it is over by 8:00 pm.

Be sure to support Vergnetti’s by planning to buy a cup of coffee, tea and/or a pastry.

The address is: 3041 SE Division, Portland, Oregon.

The meeting starts at 6:30 pm and we work VERY hard to make sure it is over by 8:00 pm.

Flying Cat is owned and operated by a member of Team Oregon 2010. Normally closed on Monday nights, the owner graciously opens her shop just for us once a month. Please bring some money to buy a cup of coffee, tea, and/or something to eat.

We need to spread the word about our mission and build membership.

Facebook is a great way to do this. If you are a member of the Team Oregon 2010 Facebook Group, you can invite others to join. Members get the latest info about events, projects and new people!

You may also use Facebook to invite people to specific events.

Click "Invite People to Join" then add your Facebook friends to the list.

How to invite others to join the Group.

1. Go to the Facebook Group for Team Oregon 2010 (click link for a quick jump there.)
2. In the upper left you should see two links.
3. Click the one that says “Invite People to Join.”
4. See image for help. The thumbs up guy has been added.
5. On the next screen, you can choose which of your Facebook friends to invite.
6. If one of your friends is already a member or has been invited, you will not be able to click on him or her.
7. Invite anyone who might be interested!
8. You may add a personal message before sending the invitation.

Click "Invite People To Come" and then choose your friends to invite.

How To Invite People to Events on Facebook

1. When you get invited to an event, be sure to click that you will be attending.
2. You are not able to invite others unless you state that are attending (you can change this later.)
3. In the upper right, there are two links. Click the one that says “Invite People To Come.”
4. Choose from among your Facebook friends.
5. People who have already been invited will not be available for you to click.
6. You may add a personal message before sending the invitation.

Team Oregon 2010 is trying to send as many athletes and supporters as possible to the Gay Games 2010 in Cologne Germany. The Games are open to people of all orientation and ability levels. Team Oregon 2010 is open to people who will be traveling to Germany AND people who simply want to support the effort.

Stay tuned. We may add a second Happy Hour on Friday.

We looked at ideas in four different categories. Next, we need to know who might be interested in earning points by heading up these projects. What sounds like fun to you? Where can you lend your talents? Let us know by sending an email to rob@enterthenet.com or leaving a comment below.

These are loose categories. Many of the activities will yield results in multiple areas for us.

Membership:

Set up a promotion designed to help current members invite family and friends to join Team Oregon 2010 as a show of support. Members get points for new Family/Friend members. Need help creating campaign to make it as easy as possible for members to ask Family/Friends. Special recogntion for Family/Friend members on site – possibly showing whom they support?

Set up a campaign targeting interested businesses in Oregon. Get them to partner with us in promoting. Includes GLBT and fitness-oriented businesses. How do we reach out to them? What works?

Develop partnerships with the following types of organizations. Get their help in promoting membership.
–Queer Resource Centers on college campuses.
–GSA (Gay Straight Alliances) at high schools.
–Queer organizations (too many to mention…from Bears to Rose Court.)

Strengthen relationships with Gay Sports organizations in Oregon and SW Washington. Need a person to coordinate these communications and a team to hit the events with information and membership recruiting. Make sure we are at every tournament.

Create a fun video about Team Oregon 2010 and push it to viral status on Facebook and other social networking sites. Need a team of people to create video. Need one “director.”

Set up “Flash Mob” events to raise awareness and promote membership in public venues.

Membership/Info events at bars/clubs/gathering places.

Fundraising/Sponsorship:

Create a “semi-nude” calendar of athletes and sell it.

Generate list of potential sponsors at all levels and send people to start conversations about sponsorship.

Outreach/Communication:

Start a campaign to get people to link to TeamOregon2010.org on their sites and profiles. Ask people to share links on their profiles.

Create an authoritative list of publications in Oregon and SW Washington and make sure we send frequent press releases.

See if we can learn from other organizations that effectively reach out across the region (BRO, CAP, Equity Foundation, etc)

If you are a member, you can earn points by helping out with any of the above projects. We REALLY need people who can take on leadership of them.
